By the time your parents become grandparents, they already have everything they need. We want to give them gifts that they will love, but that’s easier said than done! It takes a little creativity (and sometimes a little glue and DIY), but we can give them the perfect unique gift. Here are my top tips and meaningful gifts for grandparents who have everything.
Tips for Shopping for Grandparents
I don’t know about your parents and grandparents, but mine just buy whatever they need. And after being alive for 60+ years, they’ve accumulated a lot of “stuff” already! What they don’t need (or want) is more things to collect dust.
When shopping for my parents, I try to keep a few things in mind:
- What hobbies interest them?
- What is something they want to do in the next year?
- Has something of theirs recently broken? (lamp, table, clock, etc)
- Have they mentioned wanting to work on a project?
- Is there an old memory that a new gift will remind them of?
- Can I buy a consumable gift or experience that fits their personality?
These questions usually help me to get started with some ideas for gifts. But if you’re still stuck and just want some gift ideas for the grandparents in your life, here are my top 10 favorites for 2019:
Meaningful Gifts for Grandparents
Everyone loves a little curb appeal, and over time door decor can become weathered and faded from the elements. Freshen up their front door with a personalized sign like this one from LnL Woodworks. This rustic farmhouse wooden state background with burlap ribbon and bow to match the personalization is the gift for grandparents that’s sure to be loved.
Make the grandparents’ lives a little more easier (and a little more jolly!) by gifting them a case of wine from Wine Insiders. Delicious wines, lower than store prices, fast shipping (and free when ordering 6 or more bottles) – this gift will make up for the horrible sweater you gave last year.
And I’m not a grandparent yet, but Wine Insiders is on my list every year.
A unique gift for grandparents that’s sure to touch their hearts, this custom illustration is a great way to capture their home. Especially if their home is where you grew up or has a deeper meaning, this can easily become a loved family heirloom. And since you gave it to them, you get first dibs on it one day!
Grilling isn’t only for the summertime! The portable grill from Kenyon is a portable electric grill that can be used indoors or outdoors. It’s small enough to fit in a condo or apartment but big enough to cook food for the whole family outdoors too! This stainless steel grill will light a little flame in your grandparents’ cooking dreams.
Grandparents love being able to spend time with family, especially the grandkids. That’s why these wooden cornhole boards are one of my favorite gifts for grandparents this year! Just order a custom decal to go on the board and your gift is complete! These will add excitement to your next family function and keep everyone entertained.
Personalized gifts for grandparents show up on my list a lot because I just think they mean the most. When a gift adds sentimental value, it just becomes that much more special. These cutting boards can be personalized with a handwritten family recipe. Any grandma or grandpa will be touched to open this gift!
This is a great one for the grandkids to gift to grandparents. Not just a tea set, this gift is also an invitation to a tea party with the little one! Help your child write a note to include with the gift, naming a date, time, and place for the tea party. Then wrap up the note, the tea pot and tea, and a jar of delicious Manuka Honey from Three Peaks. This gift will have so much more meaning when quality time is attached to it!
Another personalized gift, this map can be symbolic of many different things. A heart to show where grandma and grandpa were from before they married. A map that shows favorite places they have traveled. Or an adventure map that symbolizes different places they have lived. This unique gift for grandparents will become their new favorite decor.
A gift with an ulterior motive – give them a gift that gives back to YOU! Send them a box of delicious foods so they can cook an amazing meal and invite you over. It’s a win-win! Misfits Market delivers boxes of organic produce that may be imperfect (but always delicious) and would have otherwise not have been sold at the grocery store. The prices are lower than at the grocery store, and we know grandparents love a good deal!
Butcherbox delivers quality meats to your front door at unbeatable prices. Their premium meats are always humanely raised and never given antibiotics ever. Gift the grandparents a subscription to both and you’ll have a full meal (yay for not having to cook!).
Bouquet of Flowers
We may traditionally think of flowers as a gift that’s just for women, but I don’t know any men who have turned down a pretty arrangement! Send (or deliver yourself) a beautiful bouquet that will complement any decor. This timeless gift will be the highlight of the dinner table.
Which of these gifts do you plan to give this year? Is there a must-give gift that I should include next time? Drop a comment and let me know!
