By the time I had my fourth kid, I thought I knew what I was doing. After all, I’ve been a mom for 17 years so I should be some sort of parenting pro or have trophies on my wall, right? Oh if it were only that simple. It seems that with every new baby there is some new sort of challenge, and Rowen was no exception to the rule.
In the hospital, things were fine. He nursed like a champ, slept most of the day, and filled his diaper right on schedule. It actually wasn’t until he was about 3-4 weeks old that we started having concerns. He began to get gassier and his digestion became irregular.
I was told that breastfed babies can go up to two weeks without having a dirty diaper, so I tried not to worry. I followed his cues and just watched for any signs of discomfort. Unfortunately, those signs showed up.
One night, Rowen was especially fussy. He just couldn’t seem to get comfortable and would move his legs around more than usual, as if his tummy was hurting. So I did what any mom would do – I searched the internet to find out how to help him.
A quick search taught me that baby tummy massage was a great way to help ease any gas or constipation pains. The video recommended using some baby lotion while gently massaging the tummy to work out air bubbles. Only there was one little problem…
I DIDN’T HAVE ANY BABY LOTION.
At 10:00 PM, there was only one place I could think to go for what we needed: Walgreen’s. Walgreen’s has been our family’s trusted pharmacy for years, especially for late night emergencies. I’m always able to find what I need, and the pharmacists are friendly and helpful whenever I have questions.
A few minutes later, I’m in the baby aisle at Walgreen’s. I picked up the JOHNSON’S® Baby Lotion to help with Rowen’s tummy massage, plus JOHNSON’S® Calming Shampoo and JOHNSON’S® Calming Baby Wash just in case. I have used JOHNSON’S® Baby products since Hunter was a baby, and trust that they are safe and gentle for Rowen.
JOHNSON’S® products have been around for 100 years, but their products have evolved to change with the current baby’s needs. JOHNSON’S® baby has the safest ingredients, free of parabens and phthalates… dye free, sulfate free, worry free. And at this moment, being worry free was what this mama needed.
Back home, I stripped Rowen down to his diaper and used the JOHNSON’S® Baby Lotion to give his tummy a gentle rub. He responded well, releasing some of the pressure inside and calming down for the night. I could rest easy knowing that he was no longer uncomfortable, and that I had used baby lotion from a brand I trust that is now more gentle than ever.

Baby Tummy Massage
Here’s a video to demonstrate a gentle baby tummy massage. Bicycling the legs and making circles with the legs helps as well!
