21 Day Fix Extreme – The Details
The program brings you 7 new challenging workouts (with 2 additional workouts in the Deluxe set). These extreme workouts are 30 minutes each, with an intense workout completed 7 days a week for 21 days. It also includes the targeted clean eating nutrition plan to bring you maximum results.
Who is 21 Day Fix Extreme for?
21DFX is for anyone with a dramatic short-term weight loss deadline – maybe an upcoming vacation, wedding, or photo shoot.
It’s perfect for someone who may not have much weight to lose, but wants to get shredded and see abs. It’s also great for anyone who has completed the 21 Day Fix program and wants to take their workouts to the next level for more serious results.
I wouldn’t recommend this program to a beginner or to anyone who is working around pain or injuries. There are definitely some more advanced moves in 21 Day Fix Extreme. A beginner would probably see more success with the original 21 Day Fix or another less “extreme” workout program.
Equipment needed for 21 Day Fix Extreme
You do need a few things to be get started with 21 Day Fix Extreme:
- a yoga mat
- weights (I used 5, 8, 10, and 15 pound dumbbells)
- resistance band with handles (light resistance)
These adjustable dumbbells are great if you don’t want to buy a pair of each size.
Also recommended:
- Shakeology
- (and my personal recommendation) a foam roller to help with self-myofascial release
What’s included with the program
You get 7 workouts – one for each day – that are only 30 minutes each.
Check out a sneak peek of the workouts here in this 21 Day Fix Extreme video:
You also get a complete nutrition plan, very similar to the simple portion control plan included with the original 21 Day Fix. For extreme results, there is also a more strict 21 Day Fix Extreme Countdown to Competition meal plan.

The 21 Day Fix Extreme Calendar
Unlike some other Beachbody programs, 21 Day Fix Extreme does not have a doubles calendar. The workouts are intense enough that if you are using enough resistance and intensity, you won’t be able to effectively complete a second workout in a day!
I did not start out with the Ultimate Kit. I initially did the regular Extreme calendar, but I did eventually try the bonus workouts. You’ll get results with either calendar, but those additional workouts are pretty amazing!
21 Day Fix Extreme Workout Schedule
The 21 Day Fix Extreme exercises are basically one minute each, with many compound moves broken into 30 second intervals. You may do 30 seconds with heavy weights and then a 30 second plyo move with no weights, for example.
Here are all of the different workouts for 21 Day Fix Extreme:
- Monday: Plyo Fix Extreme
- Tuesday: Upper Fix Extreme
- Wednesday: Pilates Fix Extreme
- Thursday: Lower Fix Extreme
- Friday: Cardio Fix Extreme
- Saturday: Dirty 30 Extreme
- Sunday: Yoga Fix Extreme
If you get bored with your workouts easily, you can add in the 21 Day Fix Extreme Ultimate workouts and bonus workouts for more variety. That workout calendar would look like this:
- Monday: Plyo Fix Extreme or Power Strength Extreme
- Tuesday: Upper Fix Extreme + 10 Minute Hardcore
- Wednesday: Pilates Fix Extreme
- Thursday: Lower Fix Extreme + 10 Minute Hardcore
- Friday: Cardio Fix Extreme
- Saturday: Dirty 30 Extreme or ABC Extreme
- Sunday: Yoga Fix Extreme
No matter which 21 Day Fix Extreme schedule you choose, you’re still going to get a heck of a workout with amazing results!
My 21 Day Fix Extreme Review
What I liked
I love that the workouts are only 30 minutes. And yes, you really DO get a good workout in just 30 minutes. I promise you will learn quickly that a minute can feel like FOREVER!!
Pilates Fix Extreme was one of my favorite workouts. Autumn makes it extreme by adding a resistance band to the moves. It’s killer, but in the best way!
Upper Fix Extreme and Lower Fix Extreme were pretty great as well. And if you try the bonus workouts, I definitely recommend ABC Extreme and 10 Min Hardcore. I still do that ab workout from time to time because it’s so good!
And a purely personal preference (and totally superficial) – I liked the beards, tattoos, and Cupcake. Hehe.
What I didn’t like
I don’t care at all for Plyo Fix Extreme. I’m not a huge fan of plyo moves as it is (even though I was an INSANITY instructor), so starting out with a whole bunch of jumping just didn’t excite me. I modified this workout a lot with more low impact moves.
You can see an example of what I’m talking about here, in this video of me doing a burpee with a tuck jump. Like WHY is that even necessary? Just give me a few more squats please.
Which reminds me – I don’t love the modifier option in this extreme version. Kat from 21 Day Fix (the original program) seemed to actually modify the moves pretty well. But in 21DFX, I ended up doing some of my own modifications. You’ll understand once you try it.
Cardio is typically my least favorite kind of workout, so I didn’t really love Cardio Fix Extreme either, but I did it. Because my body needed it.
Not gonna lie though… I frequently skipped Yoga Fix Extreme. I just usually took Sundays off and rested and stretched on my own.
21 Day Fix Extreme Meal Planning
Since I was already used to the colored container system and portion control plan with 21 Day Fix, this was pretty easy for me. Autumn made the food list a little more restrictive and she doesn’t allow for any treats AT ALL. That’s just how it has to be if you want extreme results!
I did like the 21 Day Fix Extreme Countdown to Competition meal plan – for no other reason than it gave me amazing results. I actually used it very strictly for 3 days before I had to squeeze into a red dress for an Army ball. I felt better that night than I did at my wedding!
Some people wonder if you really have to include Shakeology with the meal plan. While it is possible to get serious results without drinking Shakeology daily, I still absolutely recommend it! It’s how I made sure I got all of my nutrition, plus an easy way to get in extra protein.
How 21 Day Fix Extreme compares to other Beachbody programs
I could see the increase in workout difficulty when compared to 21 Day Fix, but honestly the biggest change is how the nutrition plan is a little stricter. With some of the complex moves Autumn does, I just feel like the “extra-ness” is unnecessary… and not really “extreme.”
If you’ve done the original Fix, then this one is fairly similar. Still different, and still a great program.
You can see my 21 Day Fix results here!
It’s definitely more advanced than Autumn’s Country Heat, but not as intense as anything like P90X or INSANITY. It’s comparable to Beachbody’s other 30 minute workouts like P90X3 or even Focus T25.

My tips and advice on completing 21 Day Fix Extreme
- Meal plan in advance – make one plan and eat the same thing each week for all 3 weeks to keep it simple if you have to
- Meal prep in advance – don’t let yourself run out of food and get hungry
- Use the heaviest weights you can use without losing good form. If you finish a set and you aren’t struggling, up the weights or intensity next time.
- Stretch stretch stretch. Stretch and foam roll more than Autumn does at the end of each workout.
- Modify the moves if they are too advanced. Keep moving, even if you have to lower the intensity.
21 Day Fix Extreme Results – Before & After Photos
The first time I completed 21 Day Fix Extreme, I didn’t take before and after photos! I know, I know. Total fail.
But I’ve completed it a few times, and this collage shows the one set of photos that I could find. I did this round when I was working toward an amateur bikini competition. I didn’t have a lot to lose, so my photos don’t show a huge transformation.
I definitely have a flatter stomach, and the biggest change was how much stronger I was from start to finish! I was able to increase the weight I used each week, plus complete more reps during the workouts.
Here are some other amazing before and after photos from REAL people who got REAL results!
As you can see, it’s totally your choice if you want to do 21 Day Fix Extreme for just one round (21 days) or if you want to continue it for repeated rounds.

Shakeology has like 17 carbs it confuses me why she removes carbs but yet drinks them in the shake
Good question! With 21 Day Fix Extreme, a lot of the “empty” carbs or foods that have little nutritional value are removed from the meal plan. But not all carbs are created equal! We definitely need carbs for energy to push through the intense workouts, so getting the most nutrition with those carbs is the best way to get those results. With Shakeology being a nutritional shake with so many other benefits, it’s something that I want to make sure I don’t miss out on. It’s also a great way to get in protein when you’re tired of eating chicken haha.
