Move It Monday – Upper Body Workout with the Surge® Storm
This post is in collaboration with Hedstrom Fitness; all opinions are my own.
If you follow me on Instagram, you may have seen some recent workouts using the Kamagon® Ball or the Surge®, a couple of awesome exercise tools that use Hydro-Inertia® to challenge your body. I am excited to share an upper body workout with the new Surge® Storm — a powerful and innovative way to take your workouts to the next level.
What is the Surge® Storm?
Just like a storm at sea, the water in the Surge® Storm creates an unpredictable dynamic resistance. The water creates an unbalanced, unstable condition that causes the body to constantly adapt to changing forces. The sleek new design and restructured handle options provide greater accessibility and comfort while allowing for multiple new exercises and uses. In contrast to most other products that you sit, stand or lay down on to achieve instability, the Surge® creates instability by being filled with water. Your body has to work to start AND stop the movement of the Surge® due to the water inside.
Why use the Surge® Storm?
While exercising to get strong and toned in the gym might be your goal, exercising to have strength for day to day life activities is super important. When you bend down to pick up your baby, or toss a heavy bag of trash into the bin, or even rush to catch a grocery cart that has rolled away, your body moves in ways that you don’t train for in the gym. Life is full of unstable and unbalanced movement. By training with dynamic fluid resistance, your body trains through movements that mimic real life. The result is improved balance and increased core stability and joint stabilizers, in addition to stronger muscles.
Upper Body Workout using the Surge® Storm
The Surge® Storm itself weighs 9 pounds when empty, and can weigh up to 60.5 pounds when fully filled with water. That’s a huge variety in weight possibilities for your workouts! The easily accessible fill cap on the end makes it simple to add or remove water to change the desired weight. The Surge® Storm also has three different handles – wide grip, center grip, and vertical handles – to allow you to move in a variety of ways.
This video demonstrates seven moves that will challenge your upper body while using the Surge® Storm.
- Upright Row
- Bicep Curl to Overhead Press
- One-Arm Shoulder Press
- Overhead Triceps Extension
- Bent Over Row
- Bicep Curl with Oblique Twist
- Narrow Chest Press to Lat Pullover
