HOW TO START RUNNING
You have your running shoes. Now what?
Here are my best tips for beginners to start running, so lace up and let's go!
Set a goal, whether it's running a 5k or just 1 mile. Find a buddy if you can. Make a running playlist.
Find your motivation
Set small goals for yourself. Start by walking for 30 minutes. Then progress and add in bursts of running.
Start with walking.
After warming up with a 5 minute walk, run for 30 seconds. Walk 2-5 minutes, then run another 30 seconds until you hit 30 minutes of activity.
Add in short running bursts.
After adding those 30 second runs, increase to 1 minute bursts with 1-2 minutes of walking time.
Slowly increase running time.
Your body will protest at first, but keep going. I ask myself, "Am I hurt? Am I dying?" If not, I keep going.
Mind over matter
A good plan is running 3 days per week. Be sure to stretch after running and on your days off.
While running, remember: - to breathe - proper posture - don't rush - it's ok to walk sometimes - stay safe - you've got this!
