Want to take your builder grade kitchen to the next level, without a lot of time and expense? Try this simple DIY kitchen island makeover for big change - even if you're a beginner to DIY!

Tools You Will Need

– miter saw – mini crowbar – nail puller (or pliers) – measuring tape – hammer and nail set or finish nailer – plastic putty knife – caulk gun – palm sander – paint and paint supplies

Step 1: Remove the existing trim.

Use a mini crowbar and pliers to remove trim and nails from the island.

Step 2: Clean and sand

Degrease, sand, and wipe down all the surfaces of the island.

Step 3: Cut and attach trim

Use a miter saw to cut the new trim and attach it to the front and sides of the island.

Step 4: Caulk the seams

Use caulk in the seams for a more finished look.

Step 5: Prime and paint

Prime and paint the island. I recommend a durable paint like Sherwin Williams Emerald Urethane Enamel

Step 6: Add a butcher block top

Remove the existing countertop and replace with butcher block.
