When you have three kids and one on the way, it takes a little creativity to keep the marriage exciting. Most nights are spent collapsing into bed exhausted, watching the same TV show for the 7th time before before we completely crash. I decided we needed a little something more… something to spice things up a bit. All it took was a little planning and getting the kids out of the house for a few hours, and date night was underway! A movie, some drinks and snacks, plus a back massage; that was all it took for hubby to agree to my plan!
It didn’t take a lot of convincing to get Arien to agree to watch Fifty Shades Freed (Blu-ray combo pack + exclusive packaging + photo gallery inside) with me. I did mention a back massage, right? He knows I enjoy a good chick flick from time to time, and he’s a good sport about joining in to watch it with me. Besides, I just had to watch the story of Christian and Anna unfold after seeing in the trailer that she was pregnant! So I went to Walmart to grab the movie while he was at work, and picked up ingredients for some fun snacks while I was there. I won’t give any movie spoilers away, so you’ll have to grab the exclusive DVD at Walmart and watch for yourself! I promise, you will both get sucked into the storyline and you won’t want to miss the ending of this final movie in the trilogy!
While Arien would usually just grab a beer as his drink of choice, I wanted to make things a little fancier. Bubbly was out of the question for obvious reasons. I had a solution though: I whipped up a vodka cranberry and lime for him, and just a cranberry and lime for myself. Pretty and tasty and fit the mood perfectly!
I just can’t watch a movie without popcorn, so I popped a bag of yummy buttery popcorn for the both of us. That was the end of the traditional movie snacks though. For Arien, I made an appetizer plate of crackers with prosciutto and cantaloupe. For myself, I arranged some pineapples and cheeses (I have craved pineapple SO much lately!). And for both of us, chocolate strawberries. Is there really any snack more romantic than that? I don’t think so.
In our home, there is no spot more cozy for movie watching than our bed. So I worked a little magic and turned our sleeping space into something a little more exciting. I hung a string of white lights over the bed and lit candles around the room. I sprinkled some faux rose petals on the bed, the bright red color popping against the stark white of our duvet. I added in some extra pillows and a fuzzy blanket to facilitate snuggling, and we were all set!
Date Night Success!
It’s amazing what a few hours of alone time can do for a busy husband and wife! We’ve only been together almost four years, but we’ve done a pretty good job of making time for ourselves. We don’t need anything elaborate or even need to leave the house to have a good time. I’m already thinking we may need to have another date night after Rowen is born for a second viewing of our Fifty Shades Freed Exclusive DVD. The movie only gets better the more you watch it, right? Especially if we happened to miss out on any important parts the first time we watched it.
Are you a Fifty Shades fan? Have you grabbed the Fifty Shades Freed Exclusive DVD from Walmart?
